August 2023
The survey results gave us the green light with no major surprises on the boat, so August was time to kick things into high gear. We were making moves to leave our Colorado apartment, move cross-country, and officially start our live-aboard journey.
To cap off our Colorado chapter in style, we set out on a backpacking trip – the incredible 4 Pass Loop in Aspen. On the road to the trailhead, we got the news: our final negotiated offer post-survey was accepted. What better way to savor the moment than spending four days in the untouched beauty of Colorado’s high alpine wilderness? We considered it a victory lap for our time in a state we hold dear.
When we returned from our wilderness getaway, it was go time – packing up the apartment and gearing up for the cross-country move. We rallied friends at a local brewery decked out in tropical gear for our send-off.

We packed boxes into the wee hours and were over the moon grateful to have Tyler’s dad, Eddie, join us for the final loading and to drive the moving truck with Tyler. With everything loaded, Tyler and Eddie hit the road, trucking cross-country. Meanwhile, I hopped on a flight to Maine for a work trip that conveniently synced up with the date we’d be taking the reins of our new boat.
On August 17th, it was official. Signed, sealed, delivered – the boat was ours. Our first night aboard we were blessed with a full sky double rainbow. Talk about a good omen.
Rest of August highlights include:
- Our first hosting! My family visited to see the boat and go for a day sail. It was awesome to have them on board and Lulu even brought her own captain hat.
- Meeting Captain Jack – What a lucky find! Jack is a Mainer, licensed captain and wonderful human. We enlisted his expertise for our first days on the boat, gaining invaluable lessons from his seasoned perspective on navigating and living aboard.
Sailing from Nova Scotia to Newport with Anne and Jim – We are so grateful for Anne and Jim’s Guidance 😉 and friendship as we’ve gotten into sailing. So many stories from this adventure, but I’ll send you to these posts from their blog for more details – 1, 2, 3.
